TL;DR — what this page is, and what it isn't
This isn't a stock list. Australia is a real served market for us, but we run an import mandate rather than a holding inventory — so the page below is a showroom of demand: you describe the vehicle, we source it in the US, ship via Long Beach to Port Botany / Port of Melbourne, run asbestos and biosecurity clearance, deliver it ADR-compliant and registered in your State.
Typical lead time from brief to door delivery: 10 to 14 weeks. Typical all-in budget in AUD: AUD 35,000 to AUD 95,000 depending on model and condition. Hand-build muscle and numbers-matching cars run higher.

- 25-year LHD rule + SEVS register pathway

Why classic American imports work in Australia
Australia has one of the world's most active American iron scenes — and the regulatory framework, once you know which lane to drive in, is friendlier than most European countries for pre-1996 LHD classics. Three pathways matter:
The 25-year LHD rule (Personal Import Scheme)
Any vehicle older than 25 years can be imported under personal use without RHD conversion in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA. WA and TAS require additional engineer sign-off. This is the path used for ~80 % of our Australian mandates: it covers everything from a 1957 Bel Air to a 2001 Mustang.
SEVS register (Specialist & Enthusiast Vehicle Scheme)
The ROVER register (Register of Approved Vehicles) — formerly SEVS — lists model/year combinations cleared for individual import even when under 25 years. It covers most Mustang GTs, Hellcats, Demons, ZL1 Camaros, Trackhawks and Raptor pickups. We check ROVER eligibility on day one.
RAWS workshop (Registered Automotive Workshop Scheme)
Used when neither the 25-year rule nor ROVER applies. The vehicle is processed by a licensed AU workshop — slower, dearer, but mandatory for one-off builds and very recent cars.
ADR compliance, asbestos and State rego
Australian Design Rules cover seatbelts, child restraints, glass and lighting — most original classics need only minor edits (high-mount stop lamp, ECE side-marker reflectors in some States). Asbestos testing is mandatory pre-shipment: brake linings, gaskets and heat shields are the usual offenders. Final step is State rego — VIC Club Permit and QLD Special Interest are the most import-friendly schemes.
What Australian clients tell us
Honest note: testimonials below are representative composites built from our actual Australian mandate notes. Once we have signed consent from named clients, we'll publish their first names, suburbs and the actual cars they ordered. We don't invent fake reviewers — these are written as a placeholder.
“Brought a 1972 C10 from Texas to Sydney's Northern Beaches. The all-in AUD budget locked before purchase came in within a hundred dollars at delivery. Asbestos certificate, NSW Historic plates, the lot — turn-key as advertised.”
— Client in Sydney NSW (placeholder, real names with consent)
“Looked at a few sellers locally and the maths never worked. Going through Americars meant I got the matching-numbers 289 fastback I actually wanted, delivered to Adelaide under SA Conditional rego, for less than two over-priced local cars.”
— Client in Adelaide SA (placeholder)
“The 1969 Camaro RS we ordered ended up at Melbourne Port via Long Beach in six weeks. RHD conversion would have been silly on this car — kept it LHD under VIC Club Permit.”
— Client in Mornington Peninsula VIC (placeholder)
Frequently asked questions — classic American cars in Australia
How does the 25-year LHD rule work in Australia?
Any LHD vehicle older than 25 years qualifies for the Personal Import Scheme without mandatory RHD conversion in NSW, VIC, QLD and SA. WA Concessional and TAS require an engineer's sign-off and may insist on RHD on rare cases. We always state pathway and State implications upfront in the quote.
How much does RHD conversion cost for a classic American?
AUD 35,000–55,000 for a quality engineered conversion (Mustang, Camaro, F-100). Most clients skip it: the 25-year rule lets you keep LHD legally on full rego. RHD only makes sense for daily-driver classics in WA/TAS or for resale specialists.
Which States are most import-friendly for classics?
Victoria's Club Permit (45/90-day scheme), Queensland's Special Interest registration and South Australia's Conditional rego are the easiest. NSW Historic plates require club membership. WA and TAS impose additional inspections.
What is the SEVS / ROVER register?
It's the Register of Approved Vehicles — model/year combinations cleared for individual import even when under 25 years old. Modern muscle cars (Hellcat, Demon, ZL1, Raptor) typically appear on ROVER and skip the 25-year wait.
Why is asbestos testing mandatory?
Australia bans the import of asbestos in any form since 2003. Pre-shipment, every classic must have brake linings, clutch plates, gaskets and heat shields tested and, where needed, replaced. We run this in the US workshop pre-loading — typical cost AUD 500–1,500.
Which Australian port do you ship into?
Port Botany (Sydney) and the Port of Melbourne for east-coast clients. Fremantle (WA) for western clients. Pacific freight from Long Beach takes 5–7 weeks RoRo, 6–8 weeks shared container.
Can I insure an imported LHD classic in Australia?
Yes — Shannons, Lumley, NRMA Veteran and Vintage and Club 4's programmes all underwrite imported LHD classics. Restricted-use clauses (club events + leisure miles) usually deliver premiums lower than for a daily.
Do I owe Luxury Car Tax on a classic?
LCT applies to vehicles above AUD 80,567 (2025–26 threshold for non-fuel-efficient cars). Most drivers and solid restoration cars sit below — numbers-matching first-gen Mustangs, COPO Camaros and hand-builds can trigger LCT at 33 % of the excess.
