Americarna is New Zealand's premier American car festival, held in New Plymouth (Taranaki) every February. Over five days, thousands of pre-1973 American vehicles cruise the streets of New Plymouth, making it the largest rolling display of American cars in the Southern Hemisphere.
Americarna runs for five days in late February. The centrepiece is the legendary Friday night cruise down Devon Street, where thousands of spectators line the route. Vehicles must be pre-1973 American makes. The event attracts entrants from across New Zealand and from Australia, the US, and beyond.
New Plymouth is 5.5 hours south of Auckland by car (SH3). Air New Zealand flies direct Auckland–New Plymouth daily. Accommodation books out a year in advance – book early.
